All My Life I’ve Been Afraid of Power is an immersive installation that examines the dynamics of colonial domination using edible architectural fragments as a metaphor for deep-rooted symbols of power and systematical behaviors.
Demonstrations of decadence in food rituals enacted power strategies similar to the imposition of monuments used as marks of dominance and cultural superiority. The project adopts eating rituals to expose dynamics of power through humor and fiction, recreating columns and architectural fragments which, although appear at first glance as solid pink marble, are made entirely of white chocolate. These edible facsimiles are destined to “ruin” by inviting the viewers to actively participate in their destruction, consumption, and digestion, in an effort to collectively metabolize rooted legacies of colonialism.
